Have you noticed that you are now only receiving few spam emails lately? Well, the truth is that almost half of the spam incidence on the web was cut down as Internet Service Providers or ISP’s have stopped their services to some web hosting firms that suspectedly supporting some of the email spammers on the Internet.
The latest positive development is the take down of McColo Corporation— a United States-based firm found catering to suspected e-mail spammers. Authorities admitted that companies that support illegal activities online are very hard to combat.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation or FBI found out that e-mail spammers are using the service of McColo to continue sending unsolicited e-mail messages. Spammers usually use network of computers known as “botnets” or “Zombie PCs” to send bulk of messages everyday. An estimated 50–80 percent of all spamming incidence worldwide was sent by zombie computers as of 2005.
Many “botnets” in the world are operating through the use of McColo services and the takedown of McColo is a big slap for email spammers.
