Filipino Boxer Manny Pacquiao has won in an eight-round technical knock out over Golden Boy Oscar De La Hoya in a boxing event dubbed as “The Dream Match” on December 7, 2008 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada in the United States. Manny Pacquiao has already 48 victories in his professional career. Oscar De La Hoya, on the other hand, has 39 victories respectively.

Oscar De La Hoya enjoyed reach and height advantage over Manny Pacquiao in the fight. The speed of Manny Pacquiao was working well in the first and last round. In the second round, Manny showed more agility and great footwork. De La Hoya also showed excellent aggression. Manny is relying so much on his speed and footwork while Oscar De La Hoya was trying connecting in the fifth round and gave too much emphasis in defending his middle section.

In the seventh round, De La Hoya seemed like hurt that he was not able to throw more punches to Pacquiao as compared to the previous rounds. On the other hand, Manny has thrown more punches together with left and right combinations that almost bring the Golden Boy down. Oscar De La Hoya surrendered in the ninth round and the fight was stopped earlier than the scheduled twelve rounds. Tony Weeks was the referee in-charge of the fight.

From first to the seventh rounds, Manny was dominating the fight. The height and reach advantage of Oscar De La Hoya was obliterated by the speed and power of Manny Pacquiao.

In a post-fight interview, Oscar De La Hoya gave credit to Manny for the job well done and said that Pacquiao deserves the victory. Oscar, however, did not yet finalized if he will be going to retire after the Dream Match with Manny Pacquiao.

Filipino Boxer Manny Pacquiao will face Oscar De La Hoya in the “Dream Match” On December 6, 2008  at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada in the United States. Oscar De La Hoya already told the reporters that he will knock out Pacquiao in under five rounds. Manny Pacquiao, on the other hand, believed that his power and speed will bring enable him to bring home the title.

Manny Pacquiao is currently the World Boxing Council’s lightweight champion. De La Hoya has won ten world titles in six different weight classes. Oscar De La Hoya stands four inches taller than Manny Pacquiao and has a 6-inch reach advantage over the Pacquiao.  Manny is 29 years old and six years younger than Oscar.

Both Manny Pacquiao and Oscar De La Hoya are in good shape upon arriving in Las Vegas for the media presentation.

Karla Paula Henry of the Philippines was crowned as Miss Earth 2008. The pageant was held at Clark Expo in Pampanga, north of Manila last November 9, 2008. The young Filipina Contestant has bested 84 other contestants. She also bagged the Miss Earth Designers Award and Miss Photogenic Special Award.

The show was hosted by Miss Earth 2004 Priscilla  Meirelles Almeda of Brazil, International singer Billy Crawford and Riza Santos, who represented Canada in the Miss Earth 2006 edition.

The Final question of the pageant was “If you had the chance to speak the newly-elected US president Barack Obama about the state of our global environment, what will you tell him?”

Karla Henry said, “For me, what I would tell the newly-elected president of the United States, being one of the most powerful countries in the world, I would encourage him to use the environment or to implement environmental knowledge in the curriculum of all schools, whether in the United States or in the Philippines. Environmental knowledge is something all of us must share. But most importantly, we must teach the youth for it something we should instill in them so that in the near future they will be the ones to take care of our mother earth. I firmly believe in the saying that the children are our future.”

Her answer was greatly appreciated and applauded by the home crowd.
