In a report released by McAfee, Inc, an anti-virus software vendor, domain names namely .info (information).hk (Hong Kong) and “.cn” (China) are dangerous domains to surf and search on the Internet. The report also stated that there a little more than 5 percent of .com domain are considered dangerous. The company analyzed more than 9.9 million web site addresses from 265 country and generic domains.
Hereunder are the percentages of risks according to the report of McAfee:
.hk - 19.2 %
.cn - 11.8 %
.info - 11.7 %
.ro - 6.8 %
McAfee used SiteAdvisor system to collect data and conduct automated tests of website finding behaviors like browser exploits, spamming incidents and other Internet risks. McAfee ranked .fi (Finland) as the safest top-level country domain and .gov as the safest generic domain.
